Overview

The program responds to the needs of communication, updating and development of the available knowledge in the field of construction in its various aspects as materials, construction techniques, management and environment. 

The overall objective of the PhD program is the education and training in the field of structural and construction engineering. That is, to educate professionals capable of conceiving, designing, building, calculating and managing safe, durable, functional and aesthetic civil engineering structures by using traditional and new materials; and assess and maintain existing structures including historical heritage by appropriate repair and strengthening techniques.

The overall training objective in the research phase is to provide scientific and technological high level education in the fields of structural engineering and construction, enabling students to generate new knowledge, new methods and skills to investigate unsolved issues related to the new materials, durability and serviceability, new structural shapes, new methods of analysis and testing, new building systems and relationship with the build environment. Additionally, graduate students are trained in communication skills to transmit knowledge and research results through the writing and oral presentation of scientific documents.
