This Ph.D. Programme started on the academic year 1986-1987, under the name of WATER ENGINEERING, organized by the Department of Projects Engineering of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). It was imparted during the academic years 1986-1987 and 1987-88. During year 1988-1989 it changed its name to Ph.D. Programme in ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING.

Overview

The aim of this programme is that the PhD. students acquired the skills  and abilities to research in the field of environmental engineering, specifically in the following research areas: environmental modelling (air and water quality), waste management, environmental impact assessment, environmental management systems, noise, industrial wastewater, groundwater, soils remediation, and treatment technologies.

Competencies that students must acquire 

  • Capacity for a systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the habilitats and research methods related to the field.
  • Ability to conceive, design, implement it take a substantial research with academic rigourosity.
  • Make a contribution through original research that lass extend frontiers of knowledge by developing a  substancial "corpus", worthy of publication referenced at national or international.
  • Ability to make a critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
  • Capacity to communicate with their colleagues, the academic community as a whole and society in general about their areas of expertise.
  • Ability to promote, in academic and professional contexts, technological, social or cultural progress,  in a society based on knowledge.

  • CV of academic, professional and research activities, and portfolio designs.
  • References to research projects completed and publications.
  • Pre-proposal of the subject of the thesis (description, aims, methodology, point of view and bibliography). Maximum of five pages.
  • Report by a lecturer backing the applicant.
