The doctoral program in electronic engineering aims to provide the training leading to the Doctoral Degree for Spanish and foreign students with a university degree related to electronics. These students can write their doctoral theses in any of the aforementioned subject areas, and take advantage of the research experience of the research groups working in those areas.

The fundamental objective of the doctoral programme in Electronic Engineering is thus to produce internationally renowned specialists in Power Electronics, Devices and Microsystems, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and Instruments and Measures from Spain and abroad, providing them with the capacity to research and develop new products and services in those areas, in which the members of the DEE have proven research experience. 

Those completing the doctoral course will be able to contribute to scientific, technological and socio-economic development through their expert knowledge of electronic technology and its possible applications. A further aim is to train lecturers in the aforementioned areas and therefore to produce both academic and professional experts.

The generic competencies of graduates should be the following:

Systematically understanding the different disciplines involved in electronic technology and engineering and the different research methods and skills related to those disciplines. This competency should enable graduates to identify, formulate and optimally solve problems related to electronic technology and engineering.

Conceiving, designing, implementing and adopting a research procedure with academic rigour.

Contributing by carrying out original research that pushes back the boundaries of knowledge, thus developing a substantial corpus, part of which is suitable for nationally or internationally referenced publication.

Adapting to the rapidly evolving electronic technologies and ICT markets.

Producing technical scientific documentation on their areas of knowledge and disseminating it to the academic community and society in general.

  • Understanding engineering as an economic and business activity, taking into consideration social aspects, ethics and sustainability.
  • Applying critical reasoning to the analysis and evaluation of different options.

Admission requirements:
  • CV of academic, professional and research activities, and portfolio designs.
  • References to research projects completed and publications.
  • Pre-proposal of the subject of the thesis (description, aims, methodology, point of view and bibliography). Maximum of five pages.
  • Report by a lecturer backing the applicant.

To meet the growing demand for funding support, the RESEARCH EMPLOYMENT ADVICE AND SUPPORT UNIT assists in the management of predoctoral and postdoctoral grants and scholarships (official UPC grants, FPI grants from the Ministry of Science and Innovation, FPU grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and FI grants from the AGAUR).
