Programme Aims

Doctoral students demonstrate a systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the skills and methods of research associated with that field. They can conceive, implement, and adapt a research process with scientific integrity. Doctoral students can undertake original research which expands existing knowledge through substantial research contributions. Doctoral students can analyze and solve complex problems and critically reflect on scientifically relevant issues. They are able to apply their research to practical problems and to present and discuss their research field to the international scientific community as well as communicate their research field to the general public. Graduates of the doctoral program successfully completed modules with a total work load of 18 ECTS credits. The doctoral thesis at the University of Zurich covers a specific subject in Banking and Finance of current scientific interest in great depth, and is publicly defended.

Course overview:

This Doctoral program is aimed at students who are already working closely with a professor of the Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology in a specific area of research and who are generally not pursuing a career in research. If you have not explicitly been invited to apply to the Track A program by a professor of the Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, you are not eligible for the program.

General Requirements

  • Persons who are currently not enrolled at the University of Zurich must first apply with one of the program directors to be accepted to a program (in the Informatics department, with the respective professor). Additionally, they must apply online with the Admissions Office, who reviews the application on behalf of the University. Acceptance to a program is only possible after these steps have been completed.
