For over 35 years, the École Supérieure pour le Développement Économique et Social (Higher Institute for Economic and Social Development - Esdes) has been preparing students and professionals through its teaching and research to create sustainable values in a globalised and digital world.
The full-time faculty is organized into 5 departments, covering the teaching areas of the different Esdes programs. They teach in all the programs, with courses ranging from introduction to the subject all the way to advanced, for example in the Master's level MasterClasses (optional courses, closely related to the experts' research work).
Institute of Sustainable Business and Organizations (ISBO) constitutes the pole 8 of the UCLy Research Unity.The cluster's research addresses major social and management issues, in response to ESDES' mission: to prepare students and professionals, through Education and Research, to create sustainable value in order to foster the emergence of a responsible economy in a globalized and digital world. The general theme that unites the work of our researchers is Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability (ERS).

Lyon offers multiple choices of accommodation as it is hugely popular and suitable with foreign students. ESDES has partnerships with private residences in order to provide quality accommodation for international students. This is an exclusive offer for all admitted and registered degree-seeking students. More information will be given to future students in the acceptance pack. French Social Security health cover is mandatory for all students under the age of 28 and covers a certain percentage of medical expenses. This health cover is free of charge and upon arrival. During check-in, ESDES will provide you with the necessary information to apply.
Esdes's gym is located on the last floor of the building, with a complete view of Lyon from above. The fitness room is equipped with cardiovascular machines and multiple free weights.
The International Students Club (ISC) is a group of students who welcome and integrate international students to the "Lyon way of life". ISC is a friendly and dynamic team that helps provide basic information before students’ arrival and during their stay in Lyon, such as setting up a bank account, transport card and helping with administrative duties and overcoming language barriers.ISC also organizes cultural and social events to entertain the international students and to help them discover French student life, as well as cultural visits and trips.
