Southeast University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China. Its origin can be traced back to 1902, when it was founded as Sanjiang Normal College. Then, it evolved as: Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University, Jiangsu University and National Central University.
Currently, SEU has set up 34 departments with 83 bachelor’s degree programs, 34 first-leveldisciplines authorized to confer PhD Degree and 48 first-level disciplines authorized to confer Master’s Degree.
SEU is an important base for scientific research in China. The school persists in the combination of production, study and research.

Southeast University Library is one of the oldest university libraries in China with profound cultural heritage.
At the end of 2018, the cumulative physical collection have been 4,365,100 volumes. There are also 4,134 Chinese and foreign language current periodicals, 131 Chinese and foreign language database platforms, 2 million e-books, 63,600 e-periodicals, and 9 million e-dissertations.
