Learning SupportLearning SupportOn enrolment, students are normally asked to sit a short assessment test. If, as a result of this, an area of learning difficulty is identified, support is offered, normally by means of a regular one-hour individual tutorial. This can be extremely helpful in helping students overcome study 'blocks' in areas such as learning technique, breaking down subject material, note-taking, reading skills, revision and memorising material, lateral thinking, the use of language, essay planning, writing style or time organisation. It overlaps with, and complements, the Study Skills Course.
There is a range of high quality accommodation arranged by the college and we aim to meet the needs of each student. Some are ready for fully independent living, others are looking for something close to a university student experience, others prefer a family environment. It is important that all students feel comfortable, happy and ‘at home’ in their accommodation, and every effort is made to match the right student to the right environment. It is our aim to nurture a sense of well-being and security by providing accommodation which gives students the space to be themselves and to grow in maturity and confidence. Students who are settled and happy where they are living are more likely to be motivated and effective in their studies. The Student Officer is responsible for all matters relating to accommodation and is on hand to give practical help and advice. The support doesn’t stop once the accommodation is arranged; all students are offered support with any issue relating to their accommodation and the Student Officer, the Director of Student Services and the Personal Tutors all work together to make sure matters are dealt with quickly and effectively.
