The CSULB College of the Arts provides scholarly and creative opportunities generally associated with stand-alone arts academies and conservatories, all within the context of a comprehensive public university. Top-tier performance and exhibition venues provide opportunities for showcasing student excellence as well as presenting an array of artists and scholars we bring to our campus.

Students interface directly with leading artists, practitioners, scholars, and educators who work on our campus as faculty and staff, and come to our campus as guests. Undergraduate study combines an immersion in the arts with a broad-based general education. Graduate study allows for advanced academic and creative exploration tailored to the individual while fostering a shared community experience among fellow artists.

About the College of the Arts

Student Art WorkThe College of the Arts (COTA) at CSULB is California's largest and most comprehensive publicly funded school for the arts, with approximately 3,800 undergraduate and graduate majors. It includes the School of Art, the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, and the departments of Dance, Design, Film and Electronic Arts, and Theatre Arts. The University Art Museum (UAM), and the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center (CPAC) are also part of the college.

The college features seven different performance venues ranging in size from an intimate black box theatre to a 1,100 seat performing arts center, and multiple exhibition spaces offering more than 9,600 sq ft of designated areas for art and design installations and shows. These facilities annually house approximately 500 arts and arts-focused events, welcoming more than 150,000 audience members and exhibit visitors to the CSULB campus.
