Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. As an independent Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both prestigious parent universities and is the first and only one of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education in China.
The University currently offers approximately 90 degree programmes in the fields of science, engineering, business, finance, architecture, urban planning, language, culture and all are taught in English except for general and basic courses. Undergraduate students earn two degrees: an XJTLU degree from the Chinese Ministry of Education and a globally recognised degree from the University of Liverpool. Postgraduate students receive a University of Liverpool degree that is recognised by the Ministry of Education.
As a research-led university, XJTLU always regards the promotion of research strength as the focus of its development. Investment in research at XJTLU has increased year by year. At the same time, the projects and funds approved by the national, provincial and municipal departments have shown a good trend of development. A high-level research team is taking shape.
Our location in Suzhou Industrial Park, which houses more than 5,000 international enterprises and Fortune 500 companies, means XJTLU students have numerous job opportunities after they graduate. Our graduates work at institutions and enterprises including the ‘Big Four’ accounting and consulting firms, foreign-owned banks, financial institutions, foreign-owned manufacturing and developing firms, and large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises.
The accommodation facilities our students stay in are located within the Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District (SEID) and managed privately by the Suzhou Industrial Park Education Development and Investment Limited Company.
The library currently holds over 610,000 books, which are added to and updated throughout the year in response to requests from academic departments. It provides 22,000 square metres of space, housing 300 PCs and 2,800 seats for studying, discussion and computer and studio work.
Our computer services use the latest technologies and are updated regularly. Students have access to all of the major IT packages as well as subject-specific software such as Adobe CS6.0 for built environment students, Sage 50 Accounts Professional for accounting students, Altera (Quartus II) computer-aided design software for electrical and electronic engineering students.
University life can be exciting and yet stressful from time to time. XJTLU has support services in place should you be finding it difficult. The Mental Health and Development Centre is a confidential service that can support you to get the most out of your time at university or if you need to talk to someone about any concerns you have.
Full of striking, architecturally impressive buildings, our North Campus provides state-of-the art teaching, laboratory, research and support facilities. This includes the award-winning and iconic Central Building, which houses our library.
