University of Rouen Normandy

With over 32,000 students and 39 research units, the University of Rouen Normandy (URN) plays a leading role in teaching and research in Normandy. It is involved in regional teaching and research clusters, and promotes interregional research activities by developing nationally and internationally renowned scientific partnerships.

History

  • The University of Rouen was founded in 1966, but the history dates years before. 
  • The establishment of the university was inspired by the University of Caen which is considered the academic metropolis in the Normandy region.
  • The sky is the limit for the University of Rouen, in regards to expansion, due to the International Relations Office and the acceptance of all students.

Student services

The Bureau de la Vie Etudiante (students’ union) provides information on all aspects of student life, from accommodation, eating out and transport, to health, social welfare, culture and sport. The whole team actively supports the creation of new clubs and societies.

Housing services

  • The regional student services office (CROUS) offers over 5,600 places in fully-furnished university residences or halls at five different locations.
  • This accommodation also offers several on-site facilities: cafeterias, laundrettes, TV rooms, parking spaces, Wi-Fi.

Library services

  • Students at the University of Rouen Normandy have access to the seven university libraries dotted across the campuses and managed by the central documentation service.
  • This service provides students, lecturers and researchers with access to print and electronic collections, an online information service (Ubib), training sessions on literature searches and an inter-library lending service.

Medical services

The university offers a health and welfare service specifically aimed at students. If you would like to make an appointment to see a healthcare professional or need specific support, you can go to any of the four health centres spread across three of the campuses (Mont-Saint-Aignan, Evreux, Madrillet).

Campus life

The University of Rouen Normandy has seven campuses:

The Greater Rouen area is a great place to live, offering a wealth of heritage, culture and sports activities, as well as being a dynamic economic hub. Only an hour from the coast and an hour and a half from Paris by train, the University of Rouen Normandy is ideally situated.

Sports facilities

The university’s sports union (SUAPS) offers a choice of more than 80 different activities. Students can also take beginner or advanced courses and participate in all kinds of sporting events and stays organised throughout the year.

Student clubs

The university has about 60 different student clubs and societies that contribute to making its campuses lively places thanks to the events they organise.

So far, among other things, they have set up a poetry hub, a short film festival, moot court competitions, a support network for international students, a voluntary-run library and a welcome network for disabled students.
