History
The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama was founded by Elsie Fogerty in 1906 (as The Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art) to offer a new form of training in speech and drama for young actors and other students.
Education
We offer a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, research degrees and short courses in acting, actor training, applied theatre, theatre crafts and making, design, drama therapy, movement, musical theatre, performance, producing, puppetry, research, scenography, stage management, teacher training, technical arts, voice and writing.
Research
Research @ Central explores contemporary practices of theatre-making and performance as well as their cultural histories and lineages. It interrogates theatre and performance both in themselves and in interplay with other disciplines, including their wider socio-cultural, institutional, political, and material-economic contexts and conditions.

Pastoral student support at Central is provided by the Student Advice Service which is located in our Student Centre on the first floor of the East Block, directly above the Library.

Campus life
The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama’s main campus is located in Swiss Cottage, within the borough of Camden; a dynamic, artistic area full of theatres, bars, restaurants and art galleries. Central’s Bankside Studios are located a stone’s throw from the River Thames, just around the corner from the legendary Shakespeare’s Globe.

The most amazing 3 years 3yr Acting (MT)
Central was a completely different world, or so I imagined it to be. I had preconceptions about actors at a Drama school from watching Fame on TV, thinking that we'd all be doing dance routines and singing songs in the canteen... Day 1 wasn't like that and neither was day 101 (which I found out when trying to start such a routine and nobody joined in!). That said, the place was an amazing experience, excellent teachers and guest directors (Thank you, I still love you for being so brilliant Fidelis.... and a little scary....). Musically we couldn't have asked for a better combination than Dr. NIck and the absolute genius of Martin Lowe, the fabulous patience and experience of Vanessa and ALL of the teachers. I cannot recommend this seat of theatrical learning highly enough, it changed my life and brought me into a year of such excellent people, all of whom are still in touch many years after leaving.

A good conservatoire with great lecturers and classes.
A Bittersweet Undergraduate College Experience
The theatre major in the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras has great professors that are available and very knowledgeable. However, the state of the university is very unstable because of a low budget, creating problems in the infrastructure. In time of COVID-19, the transition to online classes was not good and very unorganized. Nonetheless, a big part of the art community of Puerto Rico get their training and formation in this campus, and the different artists that come from here truly reflect the quality of education.
