Union College

History

Union College, founded in 1795, is a scholarly community dedicated to shaping the future and understanding the past. Faculty, staff, and administrators welcome diverse and talented students into our community, work closely with them to provide a broad and deep education, and guide them in finding and cultivating their passions.

Education

Today, Union remains one of the oldest non-denominational colleges in the country with a rich history that blends respect for tradition with an emphasis on continuous innovation and with distinguished graduates spanning over two centuries.

Research

The Student Research Grants were established to promote educational innovation and to help enrich the College’s educational programs.  Student Research Grants encourage intellectual curiosity and provide opportunities to exercise intellectual abilities.  Previous years’ funds were used to buy parts to construct an airplane, for costumes and shoes for a dance performance, for antibodies to study cell motility, and to pay participants in psychological studies, among many other projects.

Career

Union College offers an exceptional employee culture and an outstanding benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, a generous 11% retirement plan contribution and tuition remission.

All new hires of Union College are subject to a thorough education, work experience, and criminal history background check.

Housing services

At Union College, providing equal opportunities for students who experience disabilities is a campus-wide responsibility and commitment. Academic support services are an integral part of equalizing the post-secondary environment for students who experience disabilities.

The Accommodative Services Office is committed to providing students with disabilities equal opportunities to benefit from all College services, programs, and activities.

Library services

Schaffer Library provides access to information resources that support the educational mission of Union College and we teach the critical and analytical skills necessary for the intelligent use of those resources. Since its founding in 1795, the Union College library has been housed in various places on campus.

Medical services

The Wicker Wellness Center is a two-story, 6,600-square-foot facility adjacent to the Alumni Gym. It includes Health Services and the Eppler-Wolff Center for Psychological Services. Health Services, located on the first floor, is staffed by nurse practitioners, registered professional nurses and a collaborating physician.

Campus life

In today's increasingly interconnected world, developing cultural competency and embracing differences is essential to success.

At Union, you'll be encouraged to challenge yourself and your way of thinking. In fact, interacting with students, faculty members and others from a variety of backgrounds is one of the most important dimensions of your college experience. These influences will help you grow and expand. Ethnic and cultural diversity enrich our student life, academic programs and campus activities. You'll also experience diversity based on race, religion, ability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and national origin.

Sports facilities

A significant number of students play varsity sports here at Union: 600. That’s more than a quarter, and I’m sure other liberal arts colleges see similar numbers. This level of participation would be unheard-of at larger schools, where only a minute percentage of students have the opportunity to play top-tier sports. That’s not to say our teams aren’t competitive – they definitely are. And the high number of students immersed in a rigorous daily athletic regimen creates a certain culture.

Student clubs

With more than 130+ clubs and organizations to choose from, you're certain to find one that matches your interests or talents or simply sparks your curiosity. Check out performance and art clubs, multicultural and religious groups, the student newspaper and literary magazine, Greek organizations and academic honor societies.
