History
KTH origins go back to the 1690s when the Swedish scientist, inventor and industrialist Christopher Polhem started providing technical education in Stockholm through his Laboratorium Mechanicum. A hundred years later, the Laboratorium Mechanicum was absorbed into the School of Mechanics and finally established as KTH in 1827. In the 1910s, we moved into our emblematic campus in central Stockholm.

Housing services
Stockholm offers a range of housing opportunities, and the vast public transportation system makes it possible to study in one part of Stockholm and live in another. Tuition fee-paying students doing a full master's or bachelor's programme (including scholarship holders) are guaranteed accommodation for up to 12 months through KTH. Non-tuition fee-paying students cannot access accommodation through KTH and need to look for accommodation on their own.
Library services
The KTH Library supports the academic and digital skills of students and researchers. It provides e-journals, e-books and databases via subscriptions, purchases and open access. We proudly assert that we are one of Sweden's – or perhaps the world's – most beautiful libraries.
Medical services
The Swedish healthcare system is financed by social insurance that provides all citizens with subsidised healthcare through the government. There are both public and private providers of healthcare.
Campus life
KTH's five campuses are open environments for students, staff and the general public. The campus areas are designed as shared spaces for pedestrians, cyclists and cars where accessibility and pedestrian safety is prioritised. In addition to facilities for research and education with libraries and student health, there are also info centres, housing and green areas.

A Strong Academic Foundation with Room for Growth
My study experience was challenging, enriching, and very formative. I especially enjoyed the strong focus on scientific thinking, problem-solving, and understanding biological systems in depth. The coursework helped me develop discipline, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in teams. I also appreciated the exposure to research-based learning, which strengthened my curiosity and interest in data-driven science. One area that could be improved is the level of practical and computational training. While the theoretical foundation was solid, I believe more hands-on exposure to modern tools, data analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches would better prepare students for emerging fields like bioinformatics. Overall, I would summarise my study experience as a strong academic foundation that shaped my interest in advanced and applied science. It motivated me to seek further training that combines biology with computation and data analysis, which is why I am eager to pursue my master’s studies at KTH.
KTH rigorous yet tough
KTH is a great school, however, they tend not to focus on the well-being of their students and only on their reputation among other universities as one of Sweden's most difficult schools. Students should make sure to attend most lectures as professors tend to give a lot of information about the exams. There are restaurants on campus but I would recommend bringing food from home, as there are a lot of microwaves. During exam periods, there is very limited space for you to study. I recommend going in early in the morning and finding a table somewhere for you and your friends.
Uneven course quality
For the most part there is good courses. Some courses however have either mediocre teachers, course content, or both. Many courses have too much workload and too little credits, some courses have the opposite problem. Some teachers hold mediocre lectures and talk with an accent that makes it hard to understand the content. Some courses feel pointless. Clean facilities in Kista, however some areas inside main campus buildings should get renovated as they are a bit damaged.
