History
Located in the middle of Transylvania with a tradition of 75 years of medical and pharmaceutical education, the University became academically stronger as a result of the merger, in 2018, with the "Petru Maior" University, another prestigious higher education institution in Târgu Mureş.
Education
The university has acquired a new configuration, currently carrying out, within its seven faculties, programmes at bachelor and master level, as well as doctoral and postgraduate programs of study in three different languages Romanian, Hungarian and English.

They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Student services
The main objective of the Department of Counseling, Career Guidance and Informing Students (DCCGIS) is the pursuit of new opportunities for professional integration and the appropriate choice of a medical specialty/ career, through educational coaching, psychological counseling and career guidance for students at the University.
Housing services
Students may be accommodated in the university campus, in the student dormitories, in 2 types of rooms (depending on their availability): two students per room or four students per room.
Library services
The University Library houses over 340,000 publications, comprising a wide range of specialty documents: monographs, treatises, courses, practical courses, encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, doctoral dissertations, journals, newspapers, electronic documents.
ICT services
The Library offers the following services:
- issuing and renewing the library card
- loaning publications at home or into the study hall
- access into the study hall
- consulting the user in using the online catalogue and the online study platforms

Campus life
The University's main campus is located in Târgu Mureș, Romania. In 2019, UMFST opened another branch in Hamburg, Germany (University Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg / Universitätsmedizin Neumarkt am Mieresch Campus Hamburg).

The University Sports Club offers access to various sports facilities.
