Our specialised courses, offered in person or online, will prepare you to tackle present and future health challenges.Many intensive programmes at LSHTM are also open to medical students looking to intercalate to LSHTM after completing their third year of study at any recognised university globally.LSHTM offers a unique environment for research degree training with programmes providing opportunities for research leading to the degrees of MPhil (Master of Philosophy), PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) and DrPH (Doctor of Public Health). Students can apply to research at any of LSHTM’s three faculties:

LSHTM's research degree programmes examine ways of improving health, and investigate the aetiology, diagnosis, prevention and control of both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Your doctoral thesis could be desk-based or involve field or laboratory work.
LSHTM has a dedicated careers service which is available for intensive students and graduates to use for up to two years after completing their course. Career consultants help students to explore employment options and career pathways, as well as providing organisational support as well as co-ordinating a yearly timetable of workshops, discussion panels, mock interview training and employment fairs to ensure that students have every resource available to kickstart an impactful and fulfilling career which responds to global health challenges.
Distance learning students can access many of the resources through the university’s online learning platform, as well as services offered via the University of London.

LSHTM’s London campus has a range of high-quality facilities on site including state of the art lecture theatres, teaching and research spaces, laboratories, study spaces and a library.
A major advantage of studying in Bloomsbury is the density of top-level universities in the immediate area and, since LSHTM students are members of the University of London, they are able to freely use Senate House Libraries, the British Library, and many more superb and historic facilities.
LSHTM teaching facilities are well funded and fully furnished with the latest equipment and technologies. The university is carrying out improvement works to the buildings, including building new laboratories and social space for students.
LSHTM has 13 cross-institution networks of academics collaborating and innovating to address global health challenges. Focusing on areas such as Climate Change & Planetary Health; Health in Humanitarian Crises; Malaria; and Vaccines, the Centres often host events and webinars throughout the year for students to learn more about these areas. Centres often also have Student Liaison Officer (SLO) positions for students to get involved with the centre activities.

My time at university was enriching and transformative. The professors were knowledgeable and approachable, fostering an environment that encouraged critical thinking and collaboration. Campus life was vibrant, with plenty of opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities and build lasting friendships.
My time at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, studying for my Master of Public Health, has been really rewarding. What I liked most was the way the course was set up - it had a good mix of theory and real-life examples, including case studies and actual public health projects. The teachers were not only super knowledgeable, but they also gave us a lot of support, pushing us to think critically, do our own research, and join in on discussions. This approach helped me learn a lot and feel more confident in my abilities. Overall, I feel like I gained a lot from this experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have studied at such a great institution. I really appreciated the diverse group of students from all around the world, it made our class discussions more interesting and helped me see global health issues from different angles. The program was tough, but it had great resources like workshops, seminars, and research projects that helped me grow both as a student and as a professional. If there’s one area for improvement, I would suggest more hands-on fieldwork opportunities, allowing students to directly engage with public health initiatives in different communities. My time studying has been really great, it's changed me a lot and I've learned so much. Now I feel like I can make a real difference in public health, which is amazing. I've gained a lot of knowledge, skills, and confidence that will help me contribute to this field in a meaningful way.
