About

History

The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science (SMSAS) moved into the multi-million pound Sibson Building in March 2017. This vibrant new campus destination brings together academics, students, researchers and administrative staff from both SMSAS and Kent Business School (KBS).

Education

Much of science is based upon the application of Mathematics. It provides the theoretical framework for physical sciences, for Statistics and data analysis, as well as for computer science.

The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science (SMSAS) offers a range of single and joint honours degrees, postgraduate diploma programmes, Master's programmes and research programmes. Distinctive offerings include an option for students who wouldn't otherwise be eligible for degree level studies to take a Foundation Year, as well as a four year MMath programme.

Research

 Research Excellence Framework

  • An impressive 92% of our research-active staff submitted to the REF
  • All of the research submitted was judged to be of international quality.
  • The School's environment was judged to be conducive to supporting the development of world-leading research.
  • Collaborative and interdisciplinary research are particular strengths.
  • SMSAS has a very active research seminar programme across all subject areas and we're strongly committed to student achievement.
