The University of Macerata was founded in 1290 and it is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its main activities are focused on the humanities and social sciences.
Students are offered a broad range of courses supported by state-of-the-art services, including undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, Master’s and Ph.D. programmes, specialisation schools and summer schools in cultural heritage, economics, philosophy, law, arts and humanities, languages, linguistic mediation, communication, education, political science and tourism.
The Giacomo Leopardi School of Advanced Studies offers excellent multidisciplinary teaching programmes for young and talented students. Thanks to the local Confucius Institute, the University of Macerata plays a leading role in promoting Chinese language and culture.

The University of Macerata International Relations Office – IRO is the first port of call for all international students
IRO maintains the relationships with partner foreign universities and manages programmes for research and international cooperation to obtain credits and recognized qualifications. It is also in charge of managing European programmes such as Erasmus + and takes care of a number of non-European Exchange programmes outside of Europe, for instance with Albania, Australia, Belarus, Canada, Russia and the United States of America. IRO organizes also two Summer Programmes, with the University of Princeton (USA) and Murdoch University (Australia).

In its spacious and refurbished reading room the centre offers a digital library, a didactic library, an interlibrary loan service and two IT laboratories with WI-FI connection. It is an excellent facility for research activities.
In the city of Macerata, in all the university buildings, in other public buildings and in the town centre aunique login account will open a free of charge 24/7 Wifi connection.
There are two university canteens in Macerata: one is in the historic town centre and the other in the Faculty of Education-Tourism. Both are run by ERSU (the Regional Agency for students services).
You will need a rechargeable card to make use of the canteens and pay for your meal. You can apply for this card on line by completing the online form.
All year round there are lots of enjoyable things to do in Macerata, including cultural events, sport activities and competitions, theatrical and musical shows for all tastes.
If you feel like practicing sports you can contact the University Sports Centre. It offers a wide range of sports courses at competitive prices. You will find volleyball, football, tennis, aerobics, aikido, karate, modern dance courses and many more.
