You'll work with research-active academics who will provide advice and support throughout your research project. You'll receive formal training in research skills and methods. Discipline-specific training is provided where appropriate.
The Geosciences programme at Newcastle University involves intensive theoretical and practical tuition to ensure that you have the study skills to plan your project and can use the equipment and software related to your research.
You're encouraged to attend weekly research seminar series and to present your work at an annual postgraduate research conference, group seminars and relevant international conferences.
Through workshops and activities, it will build your transferable skills and increase your confidence.

General requirements
A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in an appropriate area relevant to the proposed topic of research. Appropriate experience is desirable but not essential.
Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills).
If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English course.
