Library services
Multi-award-winning, our Library Service has over 0.8 million print books, 0.7 million e-books and 57,000 e-journals. It holds Special Collections including unique archives of historical significance.
Based across four libraries open 7 days a week (term-time) with some 24/7 opening, you can access study spaces, a laptop loan scheme, online enquiry service, academic and study skills support.
ICT services
On-campus computer rooms (many accessible 24/7) house 3,000+ networked computers, with free wifi widely available.
Our virtual learning environment gives 24/7 access to reading lists and course handouts, supports online discussions with tutors and fellow students, and includes lecture and event-recording service ReCap – all backed by our IT Service support.

Our safe city-centre campus is minutes away from Newcastle’s main shopping area, nightlife, arts and culture. It’s also centrally located for public transport by train, bus or Metro.
Facilities are 5-star (QS Stars 2022). On-campus lecture and seminar spaces, four libraries, a Sport and Fitness Centre, labs, studios and clinical suites, are complemented by an art gallery, museum and theatre.
A School of Computing, learning and teaching spaces, and triple-accredited Business School are at innovation hub Newcastle Helix. A new centre for architecture and urban design opens this year; our £110m engineering hub opens in 2024.
Off-campus subject-specific facilities include two farms, a marine lab and research vessel.
Sports facilities
Top 10 for sport in the UK (British Universities and Colleges Sport league), we recently invested £32million in exceptional facilities.
Our Sport and Fitness Centre features a high-tech gym, sports halls, glass-backed squash courts and high-performance strength and conditioning rooms. Purpose-built pitches and outdoor facilities are available at locations around Newcastle.
You can compete at regional and national level with Team Newcastle. Give It A Go sessions, intramural sport and an extensive programme of fitness classes make sure sport is for all at Newcastle.
We also offer one of the UK’s best Performance Sport programmes – 48 students achieved international honours and professional contracts in 2022.
Student clubs
Newcastle University Students' Union (NUSU) will be at the heart of your experience offering 180+ societies, 60+ sports clubs, taster sessions and a volunteer programme.
A Student Advice Centre and Welfare and Support service provide impartial, professional advice. Extra support is available through confidential listening service Nightline and NUSU Buddies, which helps students build effective support networks.
Sabbatical officers, including a dedicated Postgraduate officer, will represent you on University-wide issues, with opportunities to stand for Student Council, School or course rep roles.
NUSU facilities include social and study spaces, a student bar and Venue which hosts gigs and club nights.
