Overview
About the programme
- The professional doctorate in Education at Swansea University is designed for those who wish to study education at doctoral level, on a part time basis.
- A PhD or MPhil in Education enables you to undertake a substantial research project led by your own passions and interests.
- The PhD takes three years full-time or six years part-time, and the MPhil takes two years full-time or four years part-time.
- You submit a thesis of up to 100,000 words for PhD assessment and 60,000 words for MPhil assessment, demonstrating original research with a significant contribution to the field of Education. This is followed by an oral examination of the thesis (a viva voce examination, or viva).
Programme Structure
Structure:
- The programme is composed of two phases: a taught phase, comprised of four modules, and a research phase, during which students will produce a doctoral thesis.
- The taught modules take place at Swansea University, in July each year (see additional costs); students will take one module each year.
- After successful completion of four modules, students will move on to the research stage, during which they will undertake original research, to be presented and defended during a viva voce examination, as with other doctoral programmes.
