General requirements

  • The Graduate School for the Humanities offers training for PhD students. Here you can find everything related to admission and doing a PhD at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen.
  • A distinction is made between internal and external candidates. If you applied for a PhD position advertised by the university, you are an internal candidate. 
  • The finances are provided by the university in the form of a PhD scholarship, or by a grant acquired by the university from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research NWO, or the European Science Foundation ESF, etc.

Tuition Fee

If you apply for an available position and are accepted, the funding will be arranged for you. In other cases, you will have to arrange the funding yourself.
