Overview
The aim of the lab part of this The effect of stress on head and neck cancer patients, laboratory and clinical aspects research project at University of Dundee is to further investigate: the effect of stress hormones on cancer signalling pathways, the cross talk between stress signalling and commonly deregulated pathways in cancer, the effect of stress hormones on migration of head and neck cancer cell lines and proliferation of oral cancer.
The clinical component
The aim of the clinical component of this project is to investigate stress levels in patients of head and neck cancer through stress-based questionnaires and hair cortisol levels.

The study will also observe:
- the expression of stress receptors in head and neck cancer tissues from the same patients as above
- how this expression correlates with the degree of tumour differentiation
- if it can be used as a biomarker for well, moderate, poorly differentiated tissues
