History
Founded in 1878, the Université de Montréal, with its two affiliated schools, the École Polytechnique and the HEC Montréal, is now the largest university in Quebec and the second largest in Canada.
Education
Université de Montréal offers a selection of programs vast enough to cover every field of knowledge. Recognized as a major North American research university, it is one of the most fertile grounds on Earth for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Graduate studies allow you to tap into your full potential. Acquire a specialization, deepen your knowledge, stay up-to-date in your area of expertise, or contribute to a developing body of knowledge—there are so many reasons to extend your university career.
We have a wide variety of bachelor, major and minor programs at the undergraduate level, along with certificate programs. All undergraduate programs are given in French.
Research
With research revenue exceeding half a billion dollars, UdeM is ranked third among all Canadian universities in terms of research activity and has been number one in Quebec since 2005.
UdeM: a few figures- 2,640 internationally renowned professors and researchers, among the most brilliant minds of their generation
- 465 research units
- 37 partner health institutions
- 550 projects financed by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Government of Quebec
Career
After they’ve lived in Montreal for a few years, many of our international students like it so much they want to stay. In fact, 51% of international students plan to apply for permanent residence in Canada, according to the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE).
A degree from UdeM makes it all possible. Once students have successfully completed a study program in Québec, they can apply for a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ) to stay and work in their field of study for several years. After they have completed that first step, UdeM graduates can apply to the Government of Canada for Permanent Residence.
