In 1823 a small institution was founded that was to revolutionise education in Liverpool and provide opportunities for the working people of the city. The Liverpool Mechanics Institute was founded by people of power and influence who recognised the transformative effects of education and the impact that learning and aspiration could have on individuals, communities and society.
Liverpool John Moores University has five Faculties, discover the Schools and Departments within each:

Liverpool Film Seminar is an initiative that provides a forum for postgraduates and scholars to exchange ideas and celebrate film. Similarly, in 2016 we launched Liverpool Screen School Research Seminar - a series of talks exploring media, culture and identity.

As a new student at LJMU you are guaranteed accommodation right in the heart of the dynamic city centre, with easy access to the main University campuses .
All full-time International students request accommodation through the same process as UK students, and each year LJMU sets aside rooms for new postgraduate and mature students too. The accommodation we offer is in ‘Halls’ – large blocks of flats designed to meet the needs of modern student life.
We want to make your accommodation options as tailored to your needs as possible and we’re constantly working to improve access and services to students with disabilities.
We offer a variety of different study environments at all three of our libraries – ranging from space for silent study through to social and group study spaces.
When possible, requests to use the library space for events and activities will be accommodated and we will try to provide the necessary support.
Driven by committed IT professionals, we deliver excellent, transformative customer focused IT services, supporting our students and staff in achieving those LJMU strategic goals for which technology is a vital enabler.
As a member of LJMU staff, you may book the IT Training Room in the Avril Robarts Library for staff training that requires hands-on use of PCs.
The Occupational Health Unit at LJMU seeks to promote and maintain the health and well-being of our staff and students by supporting and developing a healthy workplace culture. The effective management of the health and well-being of staff and student contributes to performance improvement, lower absenteeism and improves morale.
We’re very proud of our campuses. Not only because they provide a modern and inspiring learning space for all of our students but also because they’re a place people really want to be.
Step onto any one of our three campuses and you’ll always find a bustling hive of activity. People will be studying, chatting over a coffee, relaxing with friends or taking part in one of our events. You’ll see friendly debates between academics, people talking to our student reps and study groups working on joint projects.
We have impressive plans for our campuses; plans that will benefit not only our students and staff, but also people living, working or visiting Liverpool. It’s an exciting time.
