History
It was founded on 28 September 1905 in Singapore as the King Edward VII College of Medicine and on 8th October 1949, it became the University of Malaya with the merger of the King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College (founded in 1928).

In addition, career services also collaborates with the Counselling and Support Unit to assist graduates in understanding their interest, worth, abilities and skills that are appropriate with their jobs and to learn the ways of assessing the information regarding jobs, qualifications, rewards and opportunities in a variety of career fields.

The Student Support Services provide students with support and guidance throughout their studies. At Universiti Malaya, we have a well-established network of support staff and a range of services in place to advise and assist students with any problems they may experience relating to their studies, health issues, career and personal issues.
Housing services
This unit is responsible for the planning, streamlining and implementation of policies pertaining to accommodation as agreed by the University with the cooperation of respective residential colleges. The unit is administered by an Assistant Registrar and a support staff.
Library services
The University of Malaya Library encompasses a network of libraries and through this network the Library is able to provide comprehensive services and facilities using the discipline-based approach.
Medical services
The physical and mental well-being of each of over 15,000 University students, faculty members and staff is an important consideration to the University, and this is reflected in the University’s commitment of expert, expedient and excellent health care for the staff and students.
Sports facilities
The University of Malaya has excellent outdoor and indoor sports and recreational facilities. There is an Olympic sized swimming pool at the Sports Centre, several tennis courts and fields for soccer and rugby. The Sports Centre also organizes sporting activities and co-curriculum courses, besides serving as the coordinating body for all sporting facilities on campus as well as conducting teaching and research related to sports. There is also a jogging track around the Varsity Lake.
Accreditation
The Faculty of Business and Accountancy (FBA) recently acquired another feather in the cap when it was awarded the AACSB accreditation for a period of 5 years starting from February 2016.
