KLC School of Design was founded in 1982 by Principal, Jenny Gibbs OBE and has built up an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally for quality design education with a focus on preparing students for direct employment in the industry once they graduate.
At KLC we put our students at the heart of everything we do. Our culture of caring is applied not only to how we teach but how we address urgent issues that affect us all, encouraging students to reflect on how they as designers can impact the environment, communities and each other.
Our innovative, career focused courses are firmly grounded within the industry although the realities of practice are never at the cost of cultivating our students’ creativity.
We promote collaboration, experimentation and fearless exploration to the point that our graduates become sought after employees and designers who will continue to push the industry forward in the ever-changing professional landscape.KLC offers a long-established and proactive careers service, which is an integral part of the outcomes from studying at KLC. The end goal of our training is to secure work in the industry for our graduates and we actively facilitate this.
Throughout the course, students are educated on CV preparation, portfolio presentation and professional practice with all alumni having access to our very busy KLC Online Jobs Board.
Students are offered multiple 1-2-1 career sessions throughout their course and on graduation, KLC helps graduates find internships, job placements and freelance appointments. While KLC do not offer halls or accommodation onsite, we are able to give you help and advice while you are looking for a place to live.
Our website has a lot of recommendations of good areas to begin your search, which are within an easy commute of the school. There's also advice on the different types of accommodation available, so you can choose somewhere which is right for you, as well as hint and tips to help you along your way.KLC has a small, but well-stocked specialist interior design library, but as most courses are full teacher-directed its not a place you will spend very long in.
At KLC Students supply their own laptops, but they are given network access which include super-fast fibre broadband linked to professional colour laser copiers and printers
KLC has a number of first aiders onsite and a proactive welfare department onsite that offers a friendly support service.
KLC is based on the 5th Floor of the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. The School offers tea and coffee making facilities and an onsite shop offering art materials, supplies and healthy snacks.
The Design Centre has two Cafes and a Restaurant and nearby is a Tesco Local convenience store as well as a number of Deli Cafes.
KLC is adjacent to Imperial Wharf Overground Rail station and 15 minutes’ walk form Earl’s Course and Fulham Broadway London Underground Stations or quicker by bus.KLC does not offer a sport facilities, but there is a local Health Club and Gym/Swimming pool and being in central London there are many other facilities close by.
There are no student associations, but each course study body puts forward student reps who meet with the faculty staff each term.
KLC has a formal partnership agreement with the University of Brighton, which has long been established as a centre of excellence for art and design - the School of Arts was established in 1859.
KLC's Foundation Degree, Diploma and BA (Hons) Interior Design are all validated by the University of Brighton. These awards are clearly benchmarked against the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and international recognition increases employment opportunities for KLC graduates worldwide.No Reviews
