History

The School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences at Queen Mary University of London traces its roots back to the establishment of Queen Mary College in 1887. Originally focusing on humanities, it expanded to include biology in the early 20th century. Through mergers and restructuring, it evolved into its current form, fostering interdisciplinary research and education.

Student services

Queen Mary University of London offers diverse student support services, including academic support, counseling, disability services, career guidance, and financial aid. Additionally, there are wellness programs, recreational activities, and social events to foster a supportive and inclusive community for students.

Housing services

We guarantee accommodation to all new undergraduate and foundation students, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria on our accommodation webpages.

Postgraduate: Queen Mary guarantees a place in halls for all applicants who apply by 30 June during their year of entry.

Library services

Queen Mary University of London has libraries across its campuses, including Mile End, Whitechapel, and West Smithfield. These offer resources and study spaces tailored to different faculties, such as medicine, dentistry, and the humanities.

ICT services

There is extensive IT support for students and staff, including network connectivity, software assistance, troubleshooting, helpdesks, online resources, and IT training sessions. Computers and internet are available for use on campus.

Medical services

There is a free Student Health Service available on campus (located in the Geography Building at Mile End Campus). The Student Health Service is provided by Suttons Wharf Health Centre.The Student Health Service provides a complete range of medical services including immunisations, sexual health advice and psychological counselling.

Campus life

Our Mile End campus offers a community where you can live, relax and study. We have two shops, four cafés, two restaurants, a bar, a gym, a bookshop and a bank on site. There’s plenty of green and outdoor space, but you’re only minutes away from Central London’s bustling streets. Most of your lectures will be based here as well as a 24/7 open library. The campus also hosts the location of the Fogg Building, the dedicated space for The School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. 

Sports facilities

Qmotion is the sports and fitness centre located at the mile end campus. It offers a modern fitness facility with cardio and strength equipment, group exercise classes, personal training, and fitness assessments. Students enjoy discounted memberships and access to amenities like locker rooms. The gym fosters community through events and workshops, providing a comprehensive fitness experience for all.

Student clubs

Queen Mary is home to over 300 societies and sports clubs, ranging from drama to hockey to cheese appreciation and cultural societies. There’s something for everyone. Finding and joining societies is simple. You can head to the dedicated webpage where all societies are listed, or find them during welcome week at a societies fair.
