City's tradition of providing high quality education relevant to business and the professions dates back over 125 years. For many of City’s graduates, time spent at City laid the groundwork for leadership, innovation and excellence that have changed the world we live in.
City has deep-rooted links with the City of London.
City is divided into five academic Schools:
City is the university for business and the professions, attracting some of the best talent from across the world to deliver courses across its academic Schools. City offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, alongside foundation degrees, evening and weekend courses and professional development courses. Many courses involve placement opportunities and guest lectures given by expert professionals.
City’s academic staff are engaged in world-transforming research. Whether developing biomedical sensors to improve survival rates of patients in intensive care or leading unique research into social attitudes across Europe, students at City are educated by academic staff who are at the forefront of their fields.

Based in the UK capital, City students have a wealth of academic and career opportunities on their doorstep. City is in the heart of Islington in Central London. Most of the main buildings are around Northampton Square. From the boutiques, bars and restaurants of Islington to the dynamic cultural scene of Shoreditch, City is in an ideal location for students. It is minutes from Tech City and the Square Mile, London's world-famous financial district and headquarters of professional institutions, major arts complexes and media offices, teaching hospitals and specialist medical research centres. Extensive bus, railway and underground networks ensure students are never far from anywhere in the city, day or night.
University sports are open to everyone. There are many sports and exercise opportunities for students to get involved in, regardless of their ability, commitment level or past experience.
City’s sports centre, CitySport, is the largest student sports facility in central London. CitySport provides leading-edge sport and wellbeing facilities for students. Located approximately a five-minute walk from the Northampton Square campus, it is fitted with the latest and most sophisticated fitness equipment across 3,000m2 of floor space.
Through its Programme Representatives, City Students’ Union (SU) represents the student voice and ensures that it is heard on key academic issues. The SU also supports students in creating their own campaigns on matters that are close to their hearts and provides independent advice on a range of academic and non-academic issues students might have.
The SU organise events and support City’s many student clubs and societies, Raising and Giving (RAG) activity, student media and student-led environmental projects, so that students can play a full part in the City community and make the most of their time at City.
