History
September 6, 1962 saw the arrival of the first students of the American College in Paris, a two-year, junior college located within the American Church in Paris. By 1975, over half of ACP’s students were non-American. In 1978, The American College in Paris became accredited as a four-year, degree granting college. ACP became The American University of Paris in 1988 and has since shaped students.
Research
All four of AUP’s research centers are mission driven, promoting exchange and scholarly research on subjects the University community values: translation, democracy, human rights and the environment. In fact, AUP is an ideal setting for the interdisciplinary and cross-cultural research promoted by AUP’s research centers.
While AUP’s location in Paris provides convenient access to world-class archives, institutions, and experts, the University naturally draws to its campus researchers, artists, and writers from around the world for scholarly convocation and collaboration.Career
AUP’s students and alumni are distinguished within the global labor market by their cross-cultural outlook, multilingual skills, and excellent problem solving abilities. Close to nine out of every ten recent graduates have furthered their studies or pursued international careers within a year of graduation. Faculty advisors and experienced alumni working in 142 countries offer support and guidance to all AUP students.
After graduation, most students begin a career in sectors such as communications, NGOs, economics, international organizations, or fashion. AUP works with a housing partner who provides fully furnished, Internet-equipped, shared housing in two and three bedroom apartments located in safe Parisian neighborhoods. Residence in the apartments or in homestays offered through AUP is required for all first year students, with exemptions only for pre-existing family residency in Paris. Master’s and returning students gain access to AUP’s network of private apartments. All housing is located within 30 minutes of campus via foot or public transport.
Library services
The University Library offers students over 72,000 books, more than 500,000 electronic books, 1900 DVDs and videos and access to other libraries in Paris. The Library also provides online resources including e-books, e-encyclopedias, e-journals, and full text databases. Group study rooms and reading areas, wireless Internet access, electrical outlets for laptops, and flat screens are available.
ICT services
IT Services develops, maintains and supports the campus technology infrastructure. AUP’s team of technical specialists handles everything from desktop support, multimedia services and network cabling to system administration and enterprise application. The team provides students with study spaces that include up to date technology in both hardware and software.
Medical services
The American University of Paris offers its students a comprehensive health care plan that guarantees excellent medical coverage at an affordable price. It’s a requirement in France that all students have health insurance. Having the health care plan ensures that you don’t have to worry about your medical needs during your academic journey with AUP.
Campus life
AUP has an urban campus that extends from its home in the 7th arrondissement to the city’s bookstores, cafés, libraries, and galleries. It provides you with the opportunities and amenities of one of the world’s truly great cities, right at your doorstop. AUP challenges you to engage in deeper academic and cultural learning sharpened by discussion, analysis, and research at over 200 institutions across the city, including the Louvre, UNESCO, Palais de Tokyo, the Sorbonne, L’institut Francaise de la Mode, and more.
Sports facilities
Even though AUP is located in the heart of Paris, sports play and important part of the lives of many of AUP’s students. AUP offers competitive sports including basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, equestrianism, and cheerleading, where teams play local universities and compete in regional championships. There are also more social sporting clubs available including boxing, flag football, swimming, running, yoga and others.
Student clubs
AUP’s student government, clubs, and social responsibility initiatives provide you with the chance to explore, create, and lead. Away from the classroom, AUP offes a wide range of opportunities for students to become involved in the community or pursue an interest or passion.
Supported by the Student Government Association, the student leadership teams that oversees a €100,000 budget dedicated exclusively to student initiatives, clubs bring together students to socialize, enjoy, and learn. Whether you care about the environment, love to act on stage, or flourish in a debate, you will find a club for it at AUP.Accreditation
The American University of Paris is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, one of only six regional accreditation associations in the United States. AUP is a non-profit educational institution incorporated in the State of Delaware and licensed by the State Board of Education as a Delaware institution of higher education.
