History
The Department for Health was first established within the University of Bath in 2003. The Department was devised to centralise the high profile research and teaching in the health-related disciplines already taking place throughout the University, creating a single entity through which links with the health sector at national and international levels can be channelled, co-ordinated and developed.
Education
You may be looking to engage with our prestigious Sport, Health & Exercise Science (SHES) group, either by embarking on our BSc and MSci Sport and Exercise Science (SES) courses or enhancing your CV with one of our postgraduate distance-learning Diploma / MSc courses in Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) or Sports Physiotherapy (SPY).
Research
We produce high-quality research with a strong applied focus. We aim to contribute to the promotion of population health and wellbeing, the enhancement of functional performance at all levels, as well as to improve the quality and efficiency of the health services. We pursue this agenda with a variety of partners at local, regional, national and international levels.

We have invested over £100 million in our campus on new student accommodation, new facilities for the arts, new academic buildings and a new Olympic quality swimming pool situated in the stunning Sports Training Village, which is home to medal-winning Olympic athletes, and is open to students for elite and recreational sport.Sports facilities
The £30 million Sports Training Village was officially opened by Princess Anne in 2004
The extensive facilities can cater for over 50 sports!
Unique to the UK is the Push Start track that serves GB Bobsleigh and Skeleton GB. The latter team having medaled at the last 3 Games culminating in Gold for Amy Williams in Vancouver.
Contrary to an urban myth which claims the pool falls short of the Olympic Pool length, due to the designers not taking into account the width of the pool tiles, we can proudly declare that it is 'bang on' 50m long!
