Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) is a dynamically growing higher education institution comprised of six faculties offering students the possibility of studying humanities, natural sciences, technology and art. It is one of the most prominent centres of research in the Czech Republic and, in many respects, also abroad. With about 10,700 students, TBU ranks among medium-sized Czech universities.

TBU follows a longstanding tradition of the Faculty of Technology, which was founded in Zlín in 1969 and since than has educated hundreds of highly-qualified professionals. The University is named after the originator of the shoe industry in Zlín and a world-famous entrepreneur Tomáš Bata (1876 – 1932).

Housing services

  • Accommodation in the University Halls of Residence is intended only for students who are enrolled for either exchange (short-term) or degree (long-term) programmes at Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
  • All international students are staying in the recently rebuilt building T. G. M. Hall of Residence or Štefánikova Hall of Residence which are situated within walking distance of basically all of TBU Faculties.
  • Restaurants, shops, park, cinema, art gallery, philharmonic orchestra building, sports centre, indoor swimming pool, ski slope, tennis courts, etc. are situated near the Hall of Residence

Library services

The Library of TBU in Zlín is a library open to the public that offers services mainly to University teachers and students but also to the public interested in specialized literature. The collections include books, professional journals, daily press, CDs, audio tapes, video tapes, theses and dissertations. The Library also provides access to a number of electronic information resources.

ICT services

  • Wired internet connection is available in all rooms. Students are required to use an RJ-45 cable to connect their notebooks. Use of private routers is strictly prohibited by the Halls of Residence Rules and Regulations. A separate computer room is available on the fourth floor of the building and students can use it for free.

Student Life

Sports facilities

Zlín offers a wide range of sporting and recreational opportunities. The town of Zlín also provides several sports facilities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, two ice skating rings, artificial ski slope, squash facilities, tennis courts and bowling. There are also great opportunities for hiking, cycling, horse riding, and fishing. The region has hundreds of kilometres of marked hiking trails designed to suit all age groups. The international Moravian Cycling Route passes through the region.
