About

History

Sapienza’s story begins in 1303.The university was erected outside of the Vatican walls, and while this did not completely resolve the many issues between the university and the clergy, it surely catalysed a new relation between the City of Rome and the many scholars that arrived at the new university from around the world. 

Education

Sapienza University continues to add new Bachelors and Masters degree programmes that are held entirely in English.

Research

Scientific research activity at Sapienza covers an extremely broad spectrum of disciplines, reaching levels of excellence in many areas, including archaeology, physics and astrophysics, humanities and cultural heritage, the environment, nanotechnologies, cell and gene therapy, design, aerospace, social and economic sciences. 

Career

Sapienza provides a variety of opportunities for current students and recent graduates to expand their educational horizons and gain work experience through a range of internships and educational exchanges. The University actively promotes academic and extra-curricular placements and internships in Italy and abroad for students and recent graduates.

Student services

The Hello Help Desk provides information to foreign students who wish to study, conduct research or participate in internships at Sapienza University. Hello also helps students contact the right offices and people. The Hello Helpdesk provides students with detailed information based on individual needs both at its office and via telephone, e-mail and social media.Students can request information on enrolment, undergraduate and graduate degrees, specialisation schools, PhDs, master courses, internships, individual courses and thesis research.The Hello Help Desk is staffed by Sapienza students from around the world who can help answer your questions or direct you to the right office.

Housing services

Sapienza periodically issues a new call to identify housing opportunities for university students through agreements with public and private rental agencies.Housing available through special agreements is reserved for:

  • Students enrolled at Sapienza
  • Students who have to take a Sapienza admission exam
  • Foreign students participating in academic, didactic and cultural exchanges with Sapienza

Library services

Sapienza meets the needs of its students, academics and the community at large with a wide range of services provided by 59 libraries, making it the largest university library system in Italy.Its vast historical collection has more than 3,700,000 volumes, including 35,700 periodicals, over 25,000 antique and rare books and numerous historical archives.

ICT services

Sapienza University provides a variety of digital resources for students, including the Infostud - Student Information System, Campus-wide WIFI access, an e-learning platform, student e-mail accounts and a wide range of free and discounted software packages. 

Medical services

Your private health insurance should cover your medical needs for the entire period you are in Italy. With regards to registration with the Italian National Health Service- NHS (SSN, Servizio Sanitario Nazionale) you should go to the Local Health Unit (ASL, Azienda Sanitaria Locale) in your residential area (or to any Local Health Unit) with your health insurance and residence permit. Otherwise, you can go to the Medical Guard or to the First Aid centre at the nearest hospital where you will be treated.

Sports facilities

At the sports facilities spread over three venues throughout the city, both complete beginners and seasoned athletes can participate in various indoor and outdoor sports. Take the chance to compete in a basketball tournament, get a boat license or pick up salsa.
