PhD Programmes



  • 4 January 1826 – 19 November 1831: Operation of the Preparatory School for the Polytechnic Institute – the first technical school in Warsaw, founded by Stanisław Staszic. The school provided education in technical and business fields.
  • 4 September 1895: Opening of the Hipolit Wawelberg and Stanisław Rotwand School of Mechanics and Technology – a secondary technical school


Our students and graduates receive the best technical education and support – they become the most sought-after specialists on the labour market. There are over 160 student science clubs and organisations at the Warsaw University of Technology. Research projects implemented by students allow them to combine the knowledge gained in the course of study with practical skills.


The Warsaw University of Technology joined the elite of the beneficiaries of the competition Excellence Initiative – Research University (IDUB) organised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (currently the Ministry of Education and Science). Following the analysis of global social challenges, domestic economic priorities and combining it with the most active academic disciplines at WUT, we have identified 7 Priority Research Areas:

Housing services

At WUT there are 10 dormitories with single, double, triple rooms or apartments to choose from.

Gym, swimming pool, library, TV room, laundry and kitchen also available.

The price of a room is approximately 100 Euro monthly.

Students Union is responsible for the accomodation of all international students.

Library services

The library and information system of Warsaw University of Technology is comprised of over 30 WUT libraries, including: the Main Library with its branches and library points, as well as faculty and institute libraries. The full list of WUT libraries with addresses and opening hours is available at the home website of the Main Library.

ICT services

Student Life

Sports facilities

  • Academic Sports Club of Warsaw University of Technology (AZS PW): It runs 37 sports sections with over 1000 training students. AZS PW sportspeople regularly take part in masters sports competitions, i.a. Academic Championships of Warsaw and Mazowsze Voivodship, Polish Championships of Universities and Polish Championships of Technical Universities, and they take winning places in the general classifications during these competitions.

  • Centre for Physical Education and Sports: The Centre’s offer includes 17 suggestions of varied classes, such as: aerobics, boxing, judo and self-defense, kickboxing, basketball, body building

Student clubs

Students Union contributes to a significant extent to the internationalization and international cooperation at WUT.

The main role in this activity is played by a special team who is in charge of international affairs - International Matters Committee of Students Union. The Committee represents Polish and foreign students before the University authorities and is responsible for expenditures on international cooperation of students organizations. They collect and share information on international scholarships, internships and educational programs for students. International Affairs Committee is a link between the University (represented by authorities and Centre for International Cooperation) and all students.
