Description
In accordance with bilateral cooperation agreements in education and science concluded between the Latvian government and a list of partnership countries, Latvia offers scholarships to foreign students, researchers and teaching staff for studies, research and participation in summer schools in Latvian higher education institutions (HEIs) for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Benefits
All study programmes in English at Latvian higher education institutions are not free of charge. The Latvian scholarship holder can use the scholarship for covering of the tuition fee or for accommodation and meals. Please take into account that the amount of the scholarship is not high enough to cover all expenses in Latvia.
In limited numbers the host higher education institution provides the scholarship holder with a place in a students’ dormitory or a guesthouse.
The Latvian scholarship cannot be awarded concurrently with other scholarships.
Scholarship holders are required to make their own arrangements for insurance coverage.
Scholarships for applicants from one country may not exceed 10% from the total grant amount for study scholarships.
Eligibility
- Citizens from countries that have signed an Agreement* on co-operation in education and science.
- Citizens from countries that offer scholarships for Latvian students, researchers and teaching staff without formal agreements on co-operation in education and science.
- Scholarship applications for bachelor’s and first-level professional higher education studies will be accepted from students who have successfully completed at least one academic year of studies (either at their home higher education institution or one in Latvia) at the moment of application.

If you have decided to apply for Latvian Government Scholarship basing on Studies at RTU the following procedure shall be followed, to receive required documents for Latvian State Scholarship application from RTU:
1. Submit your online application here: Latvian state scholarships - Riga Technical University (rtu.lv),.select your chosen study programme as the 2nd option (mandatory);
2. Upload your educational qualifications documents, proof of English proficiency, passport, and your CV (formatted according to Europass);
3. Pay the application fee. The invoice can be found under FINANCE section. You may use ONLINE PAYMENT OPTION or make a transfer via bank using details indicated on invoice;
