Within our School of Law, you will be allocated a supervisor whose role is to guide you through the different stages of your research degree. In some cases, you may have joint supervision by two members of our staff.The support provided by your supervisor is a key feature of your research student experience and you will have regular one-to-one meetings to discuss progress on your research. Initially, your supervisor will help you develop your research topic and plan.

Programme Structure

Within our School of Law, in addition to carrying out your individual research, in your first term of studies you attend seminars on research methodology.

We also hold research seminars in which our students and academics come together to discuss each other’s work. These seminars provide room for stimulating intellectual debate and allow you to develop presentation skills and receive feed-back on your work both from other students and from staff. In your second and third years, you continue to work towards your PhD.

Academic Requirements

For research study within our School of Law, we normally require a Masters degree in law and an LLB with a first or upper second class honours, or equivalent. A well developed research proposal is also essential.
