Louisiana State University offers the Ph.D. degrees in political science, with concentrations in American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and political methodology. 

About

The faculty is active professionally, and includes former editors of the Journal of Politics and American Politics Quarterly, the former President of the Southern Political Science Association, current and former presidential appointees to the National Council on the Humanities, and a member of the review board for the Law and Courts Program of the National Science Foundation. 

Several of our faculty members serve on the executive councils for national organizations and the editorial boards of a variety of leading scholarly journals. LSU's faculty is also very productive, producing research over the past two decades at a pace that places us among the top 25 departments in the country in terms of per faculty publication in the nation's premier political science journals. Our faculty also includes two LSU Research Masters, which is the highest award given by LSU for excellence in research.

The departmental-level academic course plan for each student will be developed in consultation with and approved by the student’s graduate advisory committee. The committee will include the student’s major advisor and at least two additional members of the graduate faculty such that the LSU Graduate School’s requirements for graduate committees are satisfied.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
