The D.N.P. program prepares students to lead healthcare innovation at the highest organizational level and influence policy while allowing students to focus on a particular specialty area. The D.N.P. nurse impacts the practice of nursing, the healthcare delivery system and the shaping of health policy by providing the environment, resources and knowledge needed to provide high quality patient and family-centered nursing care and to practice as a professional within an interprofessional team. 

A key feature of the D.N.P. is its’ focus on evidence-based practice and evidence-based management practice, as emphasized by the Institute of Medicine. The D.N.P. is a practice-focused degree with an emphasis on the rigor of evidence-based practice based on research knowledge and the analysis of clinical and systems data. JMU D.N.P. graduates have a strong scientific foundation for practice and are prepared to translate knowledge quickly and effectively to benefit patients and healthcare systems.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3.2

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
