The Department of Mathematics offers rigorous graduate programs that combine study and research opportunities under the direction of an internationally-known faculty. Students participate in mathematical research in the primary areas of analysis, algebra, applied mathematics and geometry/topology.
Area seminars inform faculty and students on current advancements in mathematics. Mathematical training is balanced with faculty mentoring. The goal is to give students the best possible preparation for the many career opportunities available in academia, industry and government.
Additionally, the Mathematics program from University at Buffalo, guides students toward being prepared for research by the end of 3rd third year of coursework.
