The mission of the doctoral program in Rehabilitation Science is to advance the scientific knowledge underlying the clinical practice of rehabilitation through the development of expertise in research, teaching, and professional service.


Rehabilitation Science Students have opportunities to take part in:

  • Internally- and externally-funded research projects
  • Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research
  • Developing and testing evidence-based practices
  • Teaching experiences in our MOT program
  • Clinical services at the OT Life Skills Clinic
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Specialize in research with adult rehabilitation or pediatric populations
Current faculty projects with individuals following stroke:
  • Positive psychology interventions for couples coping with stroke
  • Understanding changes in relationships after stroke
  • Neuromotor rehabilitation after stroke

  • Research Design and Statistics 
  • Core Courses in Rehabilitation Science Emphasis Area 
  • Rehabilitation Science Seminar 
  • Electives, independent study, etc. to suit the needs of the individual students 
  • Dissertation credits

General requirements

An applicant for admission to The Graduate School must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, based on all undergraduate work. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated on the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of the undergraduate work for admission consideration;
  • Meeting the academic department’s admission standards, and receiving a recommendation for admission to their graduate program.
