Education
San Diego State University ( SDSU ) offers a doctoral degree program in Biology in collaboration with the University of California, San Diego UCSD Division of Biological Sciences .
The Joint Doctoral Program (with SDSU) in Biology program at the University of California, San Diego involves research training under the supervision of participating SDSU Faculty, whose members are drawn from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry , Computer Science , and Psychology.
The Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Biology is awarded jointly by the Regents of the University of California and the Trustees of the California State University.
Graduate students in this program are required to spend 1 year enrolled at UCSD. During this year, the students take School of Biological Sciences Graduate core courses while continuing their research at SDSU.
Programme Structure
Research Facilities:- The recently-renovated laboratories of the Department of Biology and the newly-built Chemistry laboratories are fully equipped for advanced research in cell and molecular biology and biochemistry.

General requirements
- Qualification for admission into the Doctoral Program includes a baccalaureate degree with a major in Biology or a related field, a GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 semester units of coursework, and a GPA of 3.0 for upper division biological sciences courses. NOTE: The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) has been suspended and is therefore, NOT required. Foreign students are also required to submit TOEFL scores.
- The Admissions Committee will evaluate potential student applications based on grade point average, TOEFL scores (if applicable), research experience, and letters of recommendation. Selected students will be invited to interview at SDSU with faculty and current Ph.D. students. Selected foreign students will be invited to interview via Zoom.
