Overview
Building on a long tradition of talented faculty, creative and dedicated graduate students and outstanding research facilities, the History of Science Program prepares students for professional careers in university teaching and research as well as library and curatorial positions.
Features
- History of Science, Technology and Medicine at University of Oklahoma explores the role of science, technology and medicine in society while providing the skills necessary for focused concentration on specific topics.
- The department offers special fellowships in support of graduate study, lively interaction with visiting scholars through the endowed Mellon Fellowship Program, and innovative teaching within an intimate community of scholars.
Programme Structure
Coursework:
- Three chronological survey courses.
- Two field survey courses.
- Elective courses as needed to fulfill the Graduate College’s course hour requirements.
- Altogether, course hours must total at least 60 hours beyond what is required for the MA.
- Of that, at least 48 hours of graduate coursework must not be dissertation research hours.

- Three letters of recommendation are required.
- Applicants will be instructed to enter the name and email address of each recommender in the application. The recommender will then be sent an email with a link to upload a letter of recommendation.
- A Resume is required. Please include information related to your educational and professional background, such as positions held, honors and awards, honors research topic and any presentations or publications.
- A statement of purpose is required.
- A Writing Sample is required.
