Overview
The Occupational and Environmental Health program at University of Utah prepares individuals interested in pursuing careers in occupational health for positions such as research, academia, and or placement in prominent businesses, insurers, and government positions that require doctoral level training.
Education
The Occupational and Environmental Health program at University of Utah trains individuals to conduct research in occupational and environmental health by developing in-depth knowledge in an area of occupational and environmental h ealth and research skills.
PhD graduates are prepared to pursue careers as researchers and leaders in the academy, governmental organizations and other types of institutions. There are three emphases in the PhD program:
- General Occupational and Environmental Health. The occupational and environmental h ealth emphasis allows students to develop a course of study that meets their specific academic, research and career interests, including research focused on environmental health.
- Industrial Hygiene. Industrial hygiene is the art and science of anticipating, recognizing, assessing and controlling hazards in the workplace and community. Industrial hygienists are comprehensively trained to assess human exposures to occupational and environmentalhazards.
- Occupational Injury Prevention. Occupational injury prevention uses a multi-disciplinaryapproach, including epidemiologic methods and ergonomics, to assess and prevent workplace injuries.
