Education
The Music - Music Theory program at Louisiana State University requires 81 acceptable hours of graduate credit beyond the bachelor’s degree (51 hours beyond the master’s degree in music.)
The Music Theory Program at the LSU School of Music offers rigorous programs in both undergraduate and graduate study of music theory. Our faculty is comprised of leading scholars in the fields of twentieth-century music and American music, music and mathematics, Soviet/Russian music and music theory, perception/cognition, and corpus studies.
The Music Theory Program at the LSU offer intensive studies in areas that include analysis and performance, set theory, transformational theory, corpus studies, and music cognition. Graduate assistantships are available on a highly competitive basis.

- A conferred baccalaureate (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university by the expected date of entry into the graduate program.
- The Pinkie Gordan Lane Graduate School requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale or in the last 60 credit hours in the previous undergraduate or graduate coursework.
- All applicants must submit transcripts from all post-secondary colleges or universities.
- A curriculum vitae (CV) or resume with a complete and accurate chronological outline of all previous college-level education is required.
