Overview
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department from The University of Maine offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering which requires a minimum of 42 credit hours of coursework beyond the BS degree and a minimum of nine credit hours of ECE 699.

- The ECE Department, faculty offices, and teaching and research laboratories are located in Barrows Hall and in the adjoining Engineering & Science Research Building (ESRB).
- The ESRB also houses the Frontier Institute for Research in Sensor Technologies (FIRST) (formerly known as the Laboratory for Surface Science and Technology), an interdisciplinary research unit exploring advanced materials spanning the spectrum from basic science to applied technology.

- The graduate GPA must be 3.2 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for students with an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Students without an M.S. degree in Electrical engineering or Computer Engineering must have a GPA of 3.2 or better (on a 4.0 scale) and meet our M.S. admission requirements.
