- A bachelor's degree in geology, physics, astronomy, engineering, mathematics, or a related field is required.
- Applicants must have outstanding records in the relevant basic sciences and mathematics. Qualified students may proceed directly toward the Ph.D., although most obtain the M.S. degree in the process.
