Overview
The purpose of our graduate Economics program at Rutgers University is to train students to become proficient in modern economics.
Students must master the analytic insights and tools of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Doctoral students specialize by taking two of the advanced fields of study offered by the department.

The broad objectives of the program are:
- to provide rigorous training in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, as well as in advanced fields
- to develop students' abilities to think about economic questions clearly and critically and to carry out independent research
- to generate an intellectually stimulating atmosphere among graduate students and faculty
- to place graduating students in attractive employment upon completion of their M.A. or Ph.D. degree

General requirements
- Personal statement, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.
- Writing Sample is strongly encouraged.
- Resume/CV recommended. Bachelor's degree, two semesters of calculus, one semester of linear algebra, and one semester of statistics are required.
- The GRE General test is required. TOEFL/IBT or IELTS for International Students.
- For a TOEFL waiver, applicant must have a minimum of three years undergraduate studies or a master's degree with the mode of instruction being English.
