Overview
Our program at the University of South Carolina emphasizes historical awareness of the perennial problems in philosophy, as well as an opportunity to pursue focused interests in several specialized areas, such as philosophy of science, moral philosophy, biomedical ethics, philosophy of language and linguistics, and ancient and modern history of philosophy, among others.

In addition to coursework, study, and research, graduate students have the opportunity to take part in the intellectual community of the Department of Philosophy, attending colloquia with philosophers from other universities, taking part in the Queen Street Symposium, and participating in various reading groups, for example.
