- University of California, Riverside Anthropology graduate students also have the option to enroll in an interdisciplinary designated emphasis (DE).
- DE programs which include Anthropology courses are Critical Southeast Asian Studies, Medical and Health Humanities, Middle East and Islamic Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, and Speculative Fictions and Cultures of Science.
- In addition, Anthropology graduate students have enrolled in the Designated Emphasis in Public Policy.

- Archaeology investigates past societies through their material and written remains
- Biological anthropology focuses on the evolution of humans as a species and the interaction of human biological variability with culture
- Linguistic anthropology explores the interconnections among language, culture, thought, and social structure
- Sociocultural anthropology is the comparative study of communities in their local and global contexts
