Overview
About the program
The integration of astrophysics and astronomy with physics is increasingly important in our discipline, particularly the physics of the Early Universe from both astronomical cosmology and particle physics.
Courses will include a set of core courses taken in the first year, followed by electives. The Astronomy program at the University of California, Riverside emphasizes an early start to research, with students will beginning research project at least as early as the Winter quarter of their first year.

- To be admitted to graduate status, the basic requirement is a bachelor's degree in Physics or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- In making recommendations to our Graduate Division, complete files are evaluated, including research experience, institution attended, and GPA.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and letters of recommendation are given substantial weight in addition to solid GPA.
