About the program
The Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of California, Riverside is heavily integrated with our research activities and is intended for well-qualified individuals who wish to pursue careers in academic or industrial research.

General requirements
- Your degree must represent the completion of a program equivalent, both in the distribution of academic subject matter and scholarship achievement, to that offered at the University of California. Although we welcome promising students from all disciplines, entering students must have a substantial background in both mathematics and computer science.
- We consider knowledge of the following subjects to be essential preparation for our graduate program: circuit design, algorithms and data structures, formal languages and automata theory, computer architecture, operating systems, programming languages, and compilers.
